Increasingly, we’re seeing contractors opting for full-time roles, but this can sometimes prove to be a false economy for many individuals unless there’s a genuine like-for-like comparison. But remember... as a contractor you can choose how many hours you work. If you were to work 45 hours a week, for example, your equivalent annual salary would be lower.

However, it's important to remember that as a contractor, you have control over how many hours you work. As a full-time employee you don't always have this same level of control.

Many full-time employees have little control over the hours they work and in many instances we see people working a typical 60 hour week.

The hourly rate does improve if you're working fewer hours as a full-time employee.

Obviously if you work somewhere in between 45 hours and 60 hours a week, your hourly rate equivalent will naturally vary between these two figures.
