Just because you’re stuck in your cab doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some tunes on the road. Music has the power to change your mood, perk you up and pass the time. So we’ve compiled our top ten driving songs to help you make the best driving playlist of all time (in our opinion!).
1. AC/DC – Highway To Hell
It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t start this list with AC/DC. Their music is bound to wake you up if you’re feeling a little low, and what better way to feel invincible than by listening to a song about a highway to hell when you’re on the road. Just don’t take the lyrics too literally and stop at those stop signs.
2. Men At Work – Down Under
An odd choice we’ll admit, but great to sing along to. Who doesn’t like belting out about a land down under where women glow and men plunder!
3. Queen – Don’t Stop Me Now
Who’s going to stop you? Definitely not Queen. You can count on Freddie Mercury to deliver a feel-good track and this classic will stand the test of time. We predict we’ll be hearing it blaring out of people’s vehicles for a very long time to come.
4. Meatloaf – Bat Out Of Hell
Another song about hell?! They’re obviously the best type of songs to drive to. Bat Out Of Hell will definitely have you nodding your head along as you cruise down the motorway.
5. Tracy Chapman – Fast Car or Jonas Blue – Fast Car ft Dakota
If you’re feeling nostalgic go for Tracy, if you want to feel club vibes go for Jonas. Either way, this song about starting again will have you singing along in no time. Just don’t think too hard about the lyrics, they’re actually quite sad.
6. Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky
Any song that starts “sun is shining in the sky” is going to be a good one. This track’s upbeat tempo and melodic singing are enough to put a smile on anybody’s face – and even if it’s absolutely chucking it down with rain you can stick this song on and pretend Mr. Blue Sky is visiting.
7. B – 25’s – Love Shack
15 miles to the Love Shack! This late 80’s track will have you jumping behind the wheel in no time and thinking about your loved one back home.
8. Ray Charles – Hit The Road Jack
It is actually impossible not to shout along: “What you say????” when this song comes on. For a surprisingly simple song, it’s surprisingly addictive.
9. Basement Jaxx – Where’s your head at?
Upping the tempo again with this one. This track is definitely one that makes it feel as though the dial on time has been cranked up and will actually make you wonder “Where your head at?”. It’ll either bring back laughs or creep you out when you remember that music video with the monkeys.
10. Kavinsky – Nightcall
You might recognise this song from the film Drive aka one of the films with the best soundtracks ever. Put this song on and be transported to the ultra-cool world of Ryan Gosling as a get-away driver.
